Activity 1
Technical Warm-Up
Pass Leads to Points (4v4)
Setup: TRAINING AREA = 30W x 40L with a goal on each end line, no GKs. Play 4v4. Set up as many fields as possible so everyone plays; run 8-minute games with 2-minute water breaks, and change opponents each game. The number of consecutive passes made before a goal is scored = the number of points awarded for that goal.
Goal: Score at the end of a passing chain. Each goal is worth as many points as the passes your team strung together before the shot (a goal after 5 passes = 5 points). Most points wins.
Coaching Points
- Move without the ball so the passer always has two options
- Look up before you receive so you already know your next pass
- Count your passes out loud as a team so everyone knows what the goal is worth
- Take the shot when it opens up; do not force one more pass
Activity 2
Small-Sided Activity
Join the Play (4v4)
Setup: TRAINING AREA = 30W x 40L with a goal on each end line, no GKs. Play 4v4. A goal only counts if EVERY player on the scoring team is across the halfway line, in the attacking half, when the ball goes in.
Goal: Attack together. Score 4v4 goals that only count when the whole team has joined the attack, so nobody hangs back and there are no gaps between teammates.
Coaching Points
- When we attack, everyone attacks: sprint across halfway as the ball travels forward
- Stay connected: no big gaps between the front and back players
- Before you shoot, check that your teammates are across the line, or wait one pass
- When you lose the ball, recover together, not one at a time
Activity 3
Expanded Small-Sided Activity
One-Touch Finish (4v4)
Setup: TRAINING AREA = 30W x 40L with a goal on each end line, no GKs. Play 4v4. A goal only counts when the shot is a first-time, one-touch finish. Keep passing until a one-touch shot opens up.
Goal: Score with one-touch finishes only. Pass to move the defense until a teammate can hit a first-time shot; any other goal does not count, play on.
Coaching Points
- Pass firmly into the shooter's stride so the finish can be one touch
- Arrive at the ball moving toward goal; do not wait flat-footed
- Placement beats power on a first-time shot
- After a save or a miss, keep playing; the next chance comes fast
Activity 4
Game
Free Play
Goal: Apply what you practiced today in a real game.
Play a scrimmage with the biggest teams possible, or play small-sided if you have fewer players or less space. Reinforce all points above.
