Procedure
Mass Youth Soccer’s pre-game procedure applies to every Mass Youth Soccer game, every age group. It takes about two minutes. Do it before every kickoff, not just the tense ones.
1
Line up at the halfway line
After all pre-game activities are complete, both teams and the referee crew will line up at the Half Way Line of the Coaches Sideline.
2
Walk across and face the spectators
Along with officials, all players and coaches will walk across the field and line up facing spectators, 5 yards from the sideline.
3
Read the Sportsmanship Statement
The Sportsmanship Statement will be read by a representative of the home team to all coaches, players and spectators. The script is below.
4
Pre-game handshake, then back to the benches
Following the reading of the script, players will perform a pre-game handshake (home team to walk down the line of the away team). After the pre-game handshake, all players and coaches will return to benches and starting players will assume positions on the field of play.
●
Officials
Officials are not required for the pre-game sportsmanship announcement, but should be involved in the walkout if present.
